The case of foreign celebrities like Rihanna-Greta supporting the peasant movement and then tweeting celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar-Lata Mangeshkar has been on hold. The Congress raised the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday and targeted the government. Congress MP in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar are being misled. He asked, “Is our country so weak that an 18-year-old girl (Greta Thanberg) is considered an enemy for supporting the agitating farmers?”
In the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, while supporting the farmers’ movement, said that we cannot remain silent on the plight and ruin of those farmers who feed us. He stressed that a large number of farmers have lost their lives in the peasant movement. The Congress leader said that we want to discuss the vote of thanks on the President’s address, but our demand was that the subject of farmers should also be discussed separately. Chaudhary said that the Parliament of the country should respect the farmers and after discussing the vote of thanks on the President’s address, the issue of farmers should be discussed separately. He said that our words cannot go out. We want 2-4 hours of discussion to show respect to farmers.

After a tweet by pop star Rihanna, several global celebrities, activists and leaders tweeted in support of the protesting farmers. Rihanna first shared a link to a CNN story about Indian farmers protesting against the new agricultural laws. He captioned it, “Why are we not talking about it?” Dr. Juice and former pornstar Mia Khalifa also supported the protesting farmers.
Uddhav government tough on Sachin-Lata and others
At the same time, the Uddhav government has shown strictness in the case of tweeting of Sachin, Lata and other celebrities. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said on Monday that the state’s intelligence department will conduct an inquiry in relation to allegations that some celebrities were pressured to tweet about the farmer movement. Deshmukh made this remark during an online meeting regarding the demand raised by the state government’s ally Congress. During the meeting on Monday, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant and some other party leaders accused the tweet of some celebrities of being allegedly related to the BJP. He said that it was also demanded to investigate whether the BJP pressured these celebrities to tweet? Deshmukh also mentioned that there was a similarity in the tweets made by badminton player Saina Nehwal and actor Akshay Kumar.
