Recently, al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a US drone strike. It is now being claimed that Haqqani’s family members, close to al Qaeda, were also killed in this attack. This claim has been made by none other than the Afghan Ambassador to Tajikistan Mohammad Zahir Aghabar himself. Haqqani’s family members were also killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan on August 2, he said. The Haqqani Network is an Islamic terrorist organization founded by Jalaluddin Haqqani. Jalaluddin is said to have emerged as a rebel commander during the anti-Soviet war.
Haqqani network hid the fact that Zawahiri was in Kabul, US claims
Speaking to India Today, Ambassador Mohammad Zaheer Aghabar said, “According to reports from Kabul, some family members of the Haqqani group were also killed in the US attack. The house belonged to Haqqani. The rest of the people left Kabul after the attack. Gone.” The Afghan envoy’s claim comes at a time when US President Joe Biden said in his address that no family members were hurt in the drone strike. The US president said that no members of al-Zawahiri’s family were hurt and there were no civilian casualties in the military operation. “This mission was carefully planned and the risk of harm to other civilians was strictly minimized,” he said. However, he did not mention Haqqani in his address.
Was unaware of Zawahiri’s presence in Afghanistan, claims Taliban
Reports said the multi-storey bungalow in Kabul where the al-Qaeda leader was hiding was owned by a close aide of Afghanistan’s Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. According to the Afghan envoy, Sirajuddin Haqqani and other top leaders have left their safe houses in Kabul and gone elsewhere. He said that many terrorist groups are still present in Afghanistan. “The killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri is not important to the people of Afghanistan. What is important to us is for the international community to know that terrorism is growing in Afghanistan under the patronage of the Taliban,” the Afghan envoy said.
Attention May be attack… after Zawahiri’s elimination, America issued a warning
It is being said that Pakistan is involved in revealing the whereabouts of Al-Qaeda leaders. Speaking about it, the Afghan envoy said that since the US has very ‘good’ relations with Pakistan, it can easily access a lot of things within Afghanistan. “Pakistan is America’s strategic partner. Appreciate the groups that informed the US about Zawahiri’s whereabouts. It exposed the Taliban,” the envoy said.
US President Joe Biden has announced that Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has been killed in a US airstrike in Afghanistan. Zawahiri became the leader of al-Qaeda after Osama bin Laden was killed in a US action. Al-Zawahiri and Osama bin Laden co-planned the 9/11 attacks on America. Osama bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals in an operation in Pakistan on May 2, 2011. According to a senior intelligence official, the house where al-Zawahiri was killed belongs to a top aide of top Taliban leader Sirajuddin Haqqani.
