The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced Team India for the tour of Australia. The BCCI announced the squad for the three Test, ODI and T20 formats for this tour. The selectors did not give Rohit Sharma a place in any of the three teams and said that his fitness would be monitored and he could get a place in the team for this tour. KL Rahul has been elected vice-captain in the limited over format in place of Rohit. Rohit is currently captaining the Mumbai Indians in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit has not played the last two matches for Mumbai Indians due to hamstring injury. Former Team India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that Indian cricket fans have the right to know about Rohit’s injury updates.
According to the BCCI official statement, “The progress of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma will be monitored by the BCCI medical team.” Shortly after the team announcement, Mumbai Indians shared two posts, in which Rohit Sharma is seen practicing net. After this video, Gavaskar has asked for complete explanation in Rohit’s case. “We are talking about Test matches, which is about a month and a half now,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports after the match between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders.
He further said, ‘If he is doing net practice for Mumbai Indians, then I do not understand what kind of injury it is. I think there should be some transparency about his injury that what is the problem really, it will help the people. ‘ Gavaskar mentioned Mayank Agarwal, who has not played in the last two matches, but still his name is included in the team of the three formats. Gavaskar said, “Indian cricket fans have the right to know about this. We know about the franchise that they do not want to give psychological edge to any team, but the thing here is about Team India. Being an Indian cricket fan, he has the right to know this.
Rohit Sharma made a great comeback in Test cricket in 2019. He performed brilliantly against South Africa and Bangladesh, opening the innings. In New Zealand too, he was to start the innings in the Test series, but due to injury, he was dropped from the series. India lost 0–0 in the Test series in New Zealand.
