Fadnavis’s ministry gave Y plus security to his wife, also got a vehicle for traffic clearance

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and wife of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis is in the news. The intelligence department, which reports to the state home department, has provided Y+ category security to Amrita Fadnavis. Along with this, a traffic clearance vehicle has also been allotted for them. Let us also tell you that earlier they had X category security.

Now in this security category, one escort vehicle and five policemen will be deployed round the clock for their security. Police sources said the security department of Mumbai Police has sent necessary instructions to the traffic officials. However, Amrita Fadnavis has not yet used a traffic clearance vehicle in her convoy.

When asked about the security upgrade, Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis told The Indian Express, “Amrita Fadnavis has not applied for any security upgrade. Based on the apprehension of danger, the High Power Committee has given security. Traffic clearance has also not been applied for vehicle. Amrita has specifically told the police that she does not need a traffic clearance vehicle.

“I am told that such traffic clearance vehicles were provided to the entire Thackeray family and many other private persons in the past. It is not decided on the basis of rank, but keeping in mind the danger. There are many people who are not even MLAs and are given Z or Z+.

Police officials said that generally only people holding constitutional posts are given traffic clearance vehicles. Aaditya Thackeray declined to comment on Fadnavis’s claim about the Thackeray family. A Shiv Sena leader close to the family said, “Rashmi Thackeray (Uddhav Thackeray’s wife) and Tejas Thackeray had two escorts, but there was no traffic police.”

According to home department sources, Amrita Fadnavis was provided X category (with escort) security cover during the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Devendra Fadnavis was the leader of the opposition then. The decision to reduce the security cover of several MVA leaders was taken within months of the formation of the Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis government in June.

An official said, “On October 2, the SID (State Intelligence Department) commissioner’s office issued a note that the security cover of Amrita Fadnavis has been upgraded. All unit chiefs in Maharashtra have been given traffic during their travels in their respective jurisdictions. Have been asked to provide clearance vehicle.”
