A pregnant woman and her husband were charred to death when their car caught fire in Kerala’s Kannur district on Thursday. Police said that the incident took place near the government hospital in the district. The deceased have been identified as Prajith (35) and his wife Risha (26), residents of Kuttiattur. He told that the incident took place when Risha, who was suffering from labor pain, was being taken to the hospital by her husband.
As soon as the information was received, the fire brigade and rescue officials reached the spot and extinguished the fire completely and took out Prajit and Risha, but they had already died. There were six people in the car and when the car caught fire, four people including a child sitting in the back seat got out safely. The co-passengers of the victims have been admitted to a hospital, police said. Kannur City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar told reporters after visiting the accident site, “They are not injured. They are in the hospital and are being examined.”
He said it appeared that the victims were trapped inside the burning car. The car was 2020 model Maruti S-Presso and both could not open the door of this car. According to the locals, the woman who died was pregnant and they tried to save the couple by opening the front door of the car, but failed.
It can be seen in the footage that the local people present at the spot were running towards the burning car and trying to save the helpless couple trapped in the car. An eyewitness said, “We were completely helpless at that moment as the front of the car immediately caught fire. We could not do much to save them as we feared that the oil tank of the car would explode at any moment.” will explode.” However, it is not yet clear why the car caught fire.
