Congress is becoming increasingly aggressive. Be it tarnishing the image of former party president Rahul Gandhi, whether it is nationalism, Bharat Jodo Yatra or any other issue related to the party, the Congress is responding to the BJP with tougher attitudes than before. The issues on which the party used to come on the defensive till a few months ago, are now attackers on those issues.
The aggressiveness in the party’s stance is being linked to changes within the Congress. The party is going through a period of change. Organization selection is in the final stages. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi is doing a padyatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to strengthen the organization and claim the Congress for the year 2024. The purpose of this padyatra is to garner public support in favor of Congress.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh says that the party will emerge in a new avatar after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The party will be more aggressive and active than before. Now both our friends and opponents will not be able to take Congress lightly. Till now our opponents, friends and allies were also taking Congress lightly. If BJP is aggressive, Congress will be twice as aggressive.
Political experts are seeing these attitudes of the Congress as an attempt to position itself as a strong alternative against the BJP. The party is trying to send a message that Congress is the only party which can take on the BJP. Because, Trinamool Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi are challenging the Congress dominance in the opposition camp.
Rajendra Sharma, professor of political science at Rohtak’s Maharishi Dayanand University, says that by attacking the BJP and the RSS directly, the Congress is trying to convey that no one should take it lightly.
