Chirag Paswan may return in NDA, BJP is looking for a formula to keep Pashupati Paras with him

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan was in Surat to attend the Hindi Divas celebrations on Wednesday. The event was addressed by Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Amit Shah. Chirag is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on ‘Official Language’ and was there as a member of the committee. But sources say that there were other reasons for Chirag to attend the meeting in Surat. The BJP leaders convinced him to attend the meeting and he went to Surat.

Many BJP leaders have been repeatedly reiterating that Chirag Paswan is still a part of the NDA. During the presidential election, Union Minister Rajnath Singh had called Chirag and sought his support for Draupadi Murmu. Chirag also gave his support to him. Not only this, Chirag had also participated in the NDA meeting regarding the presidential election. Chirag, however, had said that he attended the meeting because he supported Murmu in the presidential election and was not a part of the NDA.

According to a report in The Economic Times, sources say that talks are going on between Chirag Paswan and BJP for a fresh alliance in the changed political scenario in Bihar. Chirag’s uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras is currently in the NDA along with other party MPs. Paras is also a Union Minister. In the past, Chirag Paswan had said that as long as Paras is a minister and is in alliance with the BJP, there will be no talks with the BJP.

BJP eyes 6% vote

The BJP knows for sure that even though the breakaway faction of the LJP led by Paras is in alliance, voters in Bihar are still with Chirag Paswan. Bihar has 6 per cent Paswan voters who had largely extended their support to the LJP in the last elections.

BJP looking for formula to keep Paras-Chirag in NDA

The BJP wants to retain this segment of Dalit voters to compete with the grand alliance of JD(U), RJD, Congress and the Left ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party is also looking for a formula to keep both Chirag Paswan and Paras together within the NDA. Chirag Paswan is currently silent on any such possibilities.
