Security forces have been deployed in large numbers with the imposition of Section 144 in several districts including Amritsar, Fazilka, Moga and Muktsar. Punjab’s border with Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir has been sealed. Thousands of supporters have gathered at Gurudwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohna, Mohali and are raising slogans of Khalistan Zindabad. Chandigarh Police also got alerted. Chandigarh Police has increased security at all entry points.

Politics has also heated up regarding the action against Amritpal Singh, head of Waris Punjab De Sanstha. Congress state head Amarinder Singh Raja Wading tweeted – True Sikhs do not run away from the Guru. The Punjab Police is doing its job under compulsion. People keep calm. On the other hand, Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu has taken a dig at Amritpal by uploading the video on Twitter. He said that I am watching on TV. Former cabinet minister and Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has tweeted that he welcomes the belated action of the Punjab Police. Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab State President Ashwani Sharma said that the people of Punjab should maintain peace and brotherhood and let the law take its course. He said that the Bhagwant Mann government has delayed taking this step.
