Alarm bells for BJP on three Lok Sabha seats in Himachal, how big is the loss

The power has been snatched from the hands of the BJP in the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections. Despite Modi magic, work of double engine government and rallies by star campaigners, BJP was reduced to 25 seats only. It has happened after many decades that BJP could not even open its account in its bastion Hamirpur. It is the home district of former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal and his son and Union Minister Anurag Thakur. In this election, the graph of three Lok Sabha MPs Anurag Thakur, Suresh Kashyap and Kishan Kapoor has dropped a lot. Suresh Kashyap is also the state BJP president. In his Shimla parliamentary constituency, the BJP has performed worst.

In Shimla parliamentary constituency, BJP has been able to win only 03 out of 17 seats. BJP has won 05 seats in Anurag Thakur’s Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. Whereas in the last elections, BJP had won 10 seats from here. Even in Kangra parliamentary constituency, BJP has been able to get only 05 seats. The BJP has suffered huge losses in all these three parliamentary constituencies. The BJP has lost 38 out of 51 seats in Hamirpur, Shimla and Kangra parliamentary constituencies. In such a situation, there are alarm bells for the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on these seats. The party got relief only in Mandi parliamentary constituency, where BJP got 13 out of 17 seats.

There have been major upsets in many seats in this election. Seven ministers of the BJP government have not been able to save their seats. The BJP ministers who lost include Suresh Bhardwaj from Kusumpati, Rakesh Pathania from Fatehpur, Virender Kanwar from Kutlaihar, Sarveen Choudhary from Shahpur, Rajeev Sehjal from Kasauli, Rajendra Garg from Ghumarwin and Ramlal Markandeya from Lahaul-Spiti seat. On the other hand, Congress chief ministerial candidates Asha Kumari and Kaul Singh Thakur have lost the election.

Maintaining the custom of change of power in Himachal Pradesh since the year 1990, the voters have handed over the key of power from the hands of the BJP to the Congress. The Congress has crossed the majority mark by winning 40 seats in the 68-seat assembly. Congress candidate is leading on one seat. In this way Congress is going to win 40 seats. The magic number of majority to form the government in the state is 35. The BJP has been reduced to 25 in this election. The defeat of BJP is being considered as an anti-incumbency wave. Despite the work of Modi magic and double engine government, BJP could not repeat the mission.
