AIIMS doctor accused of taking money for operation, report given to Health Ministry

A senior AIIMS professor has been accused of performing surgery on a patient by taking money. The complaint against the professor of the Department of Obstetrics has been made by the security guard of AIIMS itself. After the matter came to the notice, the Union Health Ministry called for a report from AIIMS. After this, AIIMS has constituted an inquiry committee consisting of four professors, which has sent its report to the administration. The hospital administration has sent the report to the Health Ministry.

The security guard wrote in his complaint that his daughter’s tumor was to be surgery in the gynecology department. The professor told that the tumor would have to be operated on. It will cost Rs 36000 and this money will have to be paid in cash. He gave money to the accused professor on the third floor of the Teaching Block Chamber and when asked for the receipt of the goods, he refused. The guard told that the daughter’s surgery was necessary, so I gave the money.

The inquiry committee has written in its report that the allegations of the complainant have merit and the allegations of surgery by taking more money cannot be denied. When the committee talked to the patients in other cases of surgery as well, another patient admitted that the doctor had asked for money for the surgery.

Ever since the complaint of the matter was received, the ministry has asked the AIIMS administration to conduct a strict investigation. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has adopted a zero tolerance policy against corruption and piracy. In view of this, AIIMS has immediately investigated the matter and sent the report to the ministry.
