In the past several years, Gucci is being called the ‘brand of the rich’, but the shocking thing is that it was launched by a liftman. The story of its beginning has been quite interesting. This brand was started by a man named Guccio Gucci who once worked as a liftman and porter in a hotel. After working in a hotel for some time, he started working for a fashion company. He was very impressed by the fashion sense of the guests coming here. After this he thought of bringing his fashion label.
Before bringing the fashion label, he left the hotel job and worked in a company, learned and understood many things related to fashion. After this, in 1921, he launched his brand named Gucci in Florence, Italy. The brand may have originated from Italy, but most of the company’s products were inspired by London’s fashion.
started with leather goods
Guccio started the company with leather goods. It was known as a generic brand for the next few decades, but gained recognition from 1953. This year, a photo of Elizabeth Taylor came into the limelight, in which she was seen holding a bag made of bamboo. Guccio died in 1953, but his family took over the business. In 1961, America’s First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy was seen carrying a Gucci bag. After this the company changed the name of that bag to ‘The Jackie’. Gradually, this brand started getting associated with well-known celebrities.
A period also came when the battle for the throne started to handle the business. Due to the fight for the throne, this company reached the verge of bankruptcy. In 1981, the company introduced its first ready-to-wear collection. The collection was based on flora print. It remained in the news, but designer Top Ford did the work of handling the company which was on the verge of bankruptcy due to family discord.
Tom takes the bankrupt Gucci to the top
Designer Tom Ford entered the company in the 90s. Changed the company’s designs in Tom. After this step, Gucci got a new identity in the field of fashion. Gucci’s genius jeans registered their name in the Guinness Book of World Records. In the 90s, a record was made of selling 2 lakh 43 thousand genius jeans. At that time it was the most expensive jeans in the world.
That’s why Gucci set a popularity record
Gucci has always targeted the high class. Showcased the same class in our branding and advertisements. As a result, it came to be known as the brand of the rich. Its products were seen by linking it with status. Over time, consistent PR and advertisements strengthened its brand image. At present the brand value of the company has reached more than Rs 14 lakh crore. Many famous celebrities of the world endorse it.
