Along with this, during her royal tour that started in January, the Queen also attended the grand Republic Day celebrations at Rajpath on 26 January. At that time a large number of people participated in the program to see him. During that time she was the first queen to visit independent India.
How was the reception?
Let us tell you that at that time the Ramlila Maidan was decorated with the flags of Britain and India and there were many arrangements and crowd of Indians in the grand reception. The then Mayor of Delhi, Shamnath honored the royal couple by wearing a flower necklace and the Queen was presented with a model of Qutub Minar and a silver candle stand was presented to the Duke of Edinburgh who accompanied her.
Where did the queen go?
During her first visit, the Queen took part in the Republic Day parade along with addressing the people at Ramlila Maidan. Apart from this, Elizabeth had also paid floral tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi after reaching Rajghat. Along with Prince Philip, she inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) during a grand ceremony in the presence of the then President Rajendra Prasad. He had also planted a sapling in AIIMS, but that thing is different that it was eaten by termites after a few days.
During their first royal visit, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited Mumbai, Banaras, Udaipur, Jaipur, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata in addition to the Taj Mahal in Agra. After this Elizabeth also visited Pakistan.
