There is poison in the air of Delhi-NCR. It is difficult for people to breathe in the open air. Delhi, Noida, Gurugram… Everywhere the Air Quality Index ie AQI has crossed 400. In Noida, the AQI has been recorded beyond 500. With every breath, people are also taking poison dissolved in the air inside the body. The situation is such that without smoking, smoke equal to many cigarettes is going into the body of people in the form of pollution.
-
Air quality 431 was recorded in Delhi on Friday evening in the air quality app ‘Safar’. While Gurugram’s air quality index was recorded at 478 and Noida’s air quality index was 529. Comparing the AQI of these cities with the pollution caused by cigarettes, then the people of NCR are inhaling smoke equivalent to many cigarettes in their body.

Dr Ritu Roy, a teacher of environmental science at a private university in Noida, says that a cigarette has a concentration equal to 22 micrograms of PM2.5. In this sense, when compared with Delhi’s AQI, it is 431, that is, people of Delhi are inhaling poisonous smoke equal to 19 cigarettes.

Calculated with the AQI of the rest of the NCR cities on the basis of cigarettes, then people in Noida are inhaling polluted air equivalent to 24 cigarettes, while in Gurugram people are inhaling the smoke equivalent to 21 cigarettes. According to Dr Ritu, these conditions are frightening for children and the elderly.

Dr Ritu said that one cigarette can reduce people’s life by 11 minutes and compared with the air pollution spread in Delhi-NCR, people’s life is decreasing every minute. Till now it is not known to what extent toxic air is affecting the health of the people. (All photos from PTI)
