World Organ Donation Day: Registration of names for organ donation by CM, Minister Sudhakar

Bangalore: A special awareness program has been organized in the state on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day (August 13). Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar has appealed that everyone should register their names for organ donation and become the elixir for another’s life in this time of Amrita Mahotsava of Independence.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, he said, ‘An awareness program has been organized from Bangalore’s Mekhri Circle to Freedom Park. Around 5 thousand people including youth and Asha workers will participate. In this program, the message of building a human chain and cooperating with each other will be spread. Also, he explained that from 8 am to 8.15 am in Tripura Vasini, many people from the health sector will stand in the shape of kidneys and create awareness.

Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai will honor the families of organ donors in a program to be held at Vidhansauda. Also, the organ recipients will share their views. The Chief Minister will also register his name for organ donation on the spot. I and the officials are also going to register their names, he said.

“Organ donation is the best donation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also called for this in ‘Mann Ki Baat’. If there are 10 lakh deaths in the country, only 0.08% people are donating organs. In Spain, this rate is 40 percent. He said that some social and religious backgrounds are causing problems for organ donation.

There was a society called Jiva Sarthakate to manage activities related to organ donation in the state. Now there is Sotto Karnataka. Online registration is available in Sotto Karnataka. Out of this 11 thousand people have pledged for organ donation. Karnataka should be an example in this regard. In the state, 4,354 have applied for a kidney. Similarly, 1,141 people applied for liver and 91 people for heart. He explained that organs are given to them on the basis of seniority.

“3-4 lakh kidneys are required for organ donation in the country. When covid came the amount of donation was very low. Now many people are coming forward to donate their organs which is promising. Actor Puneeth Rajkumar donated eyes to five people. Minister Dr. Sudhakar informed that five people were given life by giving the organs of actor Sanchari Vijay.
