Suratkal Tollgate Official: Answer from Public Utilities Minister in session!

Mangalore: Public Works Minister CC Patil said that the tollgate near Suratkal NITK in Dakshina Kannada district is official and under the purview of the National Highways Authority of India.

Responding to a question asked by K. Harish Kumar of Congress regarding Suratkal Tollgate in Vidhan Parishad, Public Works Minister CC Patil said that the toll plaza located at 358.042 of National Highway 66 in Dakshina Kannada district has been officially established. The highway authority has responded that the toll collection is being done according to the procedure.

To a question about the abuse by bouncers at the toll plaza, the minister replied that the highway authority had reported that no such incident had taken place.

Allowance for toll collection
Toll is levied by the National Highways Authority of India as notified in clause 8(2) of the Toll Notification 2008. In case toll plaza is to be constructed at a distance of less than 60 km, the concerned officer can construct it in written form along with accurate documents. 60 km The toll collection center to be set up can be set up for collection for permanent bridge, bypass or tunnel, the highway authority said.

VIP Path Creation
All toll booths set up by the National Highways Authority of India, including the Suratkal Toll Plaza, have dedicated lanes for VIP vehicles and ambulances. Besides, the minister replied in the session that the authority has reported that basic amenities like toilets and other facilities have been provided.

Review of merger proposal
A proposal to merge Suratkal Toll Plaza with Hejamadi Toll Plaza has been submitted to Regional Authorities, National Highways Authority of India, Bangalore for approval. The National Highways Authority of India has reported that a review is being done by the competent authority to consider the said proposal.
