The number of IPS officers is going to increase in Bihar this year. At present the sanctioned strength of IPS officers in Bihar Cadre is 231. 12 to 13 posts are likely to increase. After the increase, their number can reach from 243 to 244. Cadre review exercise has started. The final proposal related to this is being sent to the Union Home Ministry and Personnel Department soon.
The related notification will be issued after the final seal on this proposal at the center level itself. A three-member committee was formed under the chairmanship of AK Ambedkar, DG, BSP in the state, to brainstorm all aspects for conducting the cadre review. The committee has prepared the report and submitted it to the Home Department. After its final observation here, it will be sent to the center.
Cadre review of IPS provision to increase the number of posts
There is a provision to increase the number of posts in the state by reviewing the cadre of IPS every 5 years. Earlier there was a review in 2017, in which there was an increase of about 12 posts. According to the rules, this process of review should have happened in 2022 only. For this, a proposal was prepared and sent to the Center two to three times, but the Center returned the file every time due to non-agreement on the number of seats. The state government had proposed to increase the IPS seats by 12 to 15 percent keeping in mind the plan to develop some new units like cyber cell, alcohol prohibition, but the central government was not ready. He is not ready to give more than 5 per cent seats. Keeping this in view, the entire proposal has been prepared afresh.

There is a possibility of increasing the post from SP to ADG.
After the final review of the IPS cadre, it will be clear that in which rank, how many posts will be increased. Only the Central Personnel Department will put the final stamp on increasing the number of posts. According to the information received, the maximum number of posts can increase in the SP rank. Apart from this, there is a possibility of increasing the posts in IG and ADG ranks. At present there are 28 posts of ADG rank, 17 posts of IG rank and 87 posts of SP rank. The state government also wants to create a new post of DG rank in the alcohol prohibition unit, but the Center is not fully prepared for it.
