Telecom and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Tuesday (November 15) that the country’s largest Apple iPhone manufacturing unit will soon start in Hosur, Bengaluru. Apple supplier Foxconn plans to quadruple its operations in the country in the next two years, Reuters reports. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that 60,000 people will get employment through the iPhone manufacturing unit to be set up in Bengaluru. The minister said that nearly six thousand tribal women from the nearby areas of Ranchi and Hazaribagh have already been trained in the manufacture of iPhones.
Meanwhile, Apple is manufacturing iPhone enclosures through outsourcing from Tata Electronics plant in Hosur, Bengaluru. Apart from this, Apple iPhones in the country are also manufactured by electronic companies like Foxconn, Wistron, Pegatron. Foxconn opened its first plant in India in 2019. Even though Foxconn’s production unit had previously revealed that the world’s largest iPhone manufacturing factory in China, ‘Zhengzhou Plant’, has been hampered by the series of Covid lockdowns for the past two years. It is now gearing up to expand its workforce in India as well to fill this gap.
Foxconn plans to increase its workforce to 70,000 over the next two years by employing 53,000 people at its iPhone manufacturing unit in Bengaluru. Currently this company has started producing iPhone 14.
