The Union Health Ministry is considering the possibility of introducing a centralized recruitment system for teachers and non-teaching staff in various All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the country. In this regard, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog Dr. V.K. Paul, Additional Secretary (PMSSY), Ministry of Health, Director of AIIMS, New Delhi, has been constituted. The ministry had said in the Lok Sabha last year that about 44 per cent posts of teachers are vacant in 14 new AIIMS in the country.
An order issued on February 28 said, “In order to strengthen the recruitment process of teachers and non-teaching staff in various AIIMS and to explore the possibilities of a centralized recruitment system in this regard, the Central Institute Body (CIB) will be held at Bhubaneswar AIIMS on January 8.” There was a meeting after which the committee was formed.
The ministry had told the Lok Sabha last year that about 44 per cent posts of teachers in 14 new AIIMS in the country are vacant and Rajkot AIIMS has only 40 teachers against the total sanctioned strength of 183.
According to the government, among the AIIMS which have acute shortage of teachers, AIIMS Rajkot is followed by AIIMS Vijaypur and AIIMS Gorakhpur where the number of teachers is very less.
The ministry had said that the government had sanctioned adequate number of faculty posts for teaching MBBS students in the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences.
An official source said, “The central recruitment system will make the recruitment process of teachers and non-teaching staff more transparent and smooth. Apart from this, transfer from one AIIMS to another will also be facilitated. At present, these AIIMS recruit their personnel separately. It has been observed that talented doctors are reluctant to move out of their state or do not want to go to areas where commuting is difficult.
According to the statistics of the ministry, there are a total of 4,026 sanctioned posts for the 18 new AIIMS, while only 2,259 posts have been filled.
