Police rescues six people trapped in heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur

Jammu, Jan 25 (PTI) Six people stranded due to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district have been rescued by a police team. This information was given by the officials on Tuesday.

He said that a call for emergency help came on Monday night to Inspector Sohan Singh, in-charge of Basantgarh police station, in which the contact told that his family members were stuck on the high altitude Chochru Galla Top and Khaned Top.

He said that these people were coming from Himachal Pradesh via Malhar in Kathua district and got stuck due to snowfall.

Officials said that as soon as the information was received, the police team led by the in-charge of the station swung into action and reached the spot in about two hours after walking for several kilometers in snow, through inaccessible road.

He told that the team has rescued all the stranded people.

The rescued people were brought to the Shang police post, where they were provided food, shelter and medical facilities, officials said. He told that on Tuesday they met their respective families.
