Former BJP MLA joins Congress in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 25 (PTI) Former Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Dinanath Bhagat on Tuesday joined the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and said he was influenced by the party leadership and its past.

Bhagat had resigned from the BJP in November 2020 and briefly joined the National Panthers Party. Bhagat was received at the Congress headquarters here by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President G A Mir, working president Raman Bhalla and other senior leaders.

Mir told reporters, “Bhagat, who had won from Chenani in Udhampur district on a BJP ticket in the last assembly elections, is a secular minded leader and eminent personality who has always served the people. His joining the Congress is a big boost for the party.”

Bhagat said that he himself had resigned from the BJP after feeling “suffocated” in the party as there is a “huge difference between his words and deeds”. are being sidelined. Whenever I raised any issue related to the poor, I got only answers.

Praising the Congress, he said that the party “ruled the country for more than 60 years and took the country to new heights”. They want people to be united like a bouquet because this is the secret of keeping our country strong.”
