Jharkhand: A girl smuggled from Medininagar rescued from Madhya Pradesh, three arrested

Cases of women trafficking are continuously coming to the fore in Jharkhand. The latest case has come to light of a 19-year-old girl kidnapped from Palamu district and taken to Madhya Pradesh for smuggling. The girl, who was allegedly kidnapped and brought for smuggling, has been rescued from Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh and three people have been arrested. The police gave this information on Monday.

Ramgarh police station in-charge Prabhat Ranjan Rai said that five months after the abduction, a special team of Palamu policemen rescued the woman from Madhya Pradesh and brought her back to Medininagar. He said that on the pretext of a job, one of his neighbors had lured him and sent him to Madhya Pradesh.

The officer said the neighbor was in touch with the miscreants who have links with human traffickers. On receiving no news of her daughter, the girl’s mother had approached the police and lodged a complaint in August 2021.

Rai said, “The main accused first took the woman to Ramanujganj in Chhattisgarh and then sold it to a resident of Madhya Pradesh for Rs 70,000.” Acting on a tip-off, a special team with the help of local police raided Tikpur village in Chhatarpur district and rescued the girl, he said. Also three people have been arrested.

Earlier this month, the East Singhbhum district police had freed two women and a teenager from the Sabar tribe who were trafficked from Jharkhand to Madhya Pradesh and arrested five accused, including a woman.
