Wipro on Moonlighting: ‘Coconut’ to 300 employees at once from Wipro blaming moonlighting!

Wipro on Moonlighting : Wipro company has given coconuts to 300 employees as they were found to be working with competitor company while working in Wipro. Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji has given information about this. He said the action was taken after 300 of the company’s employees were found to be working with one of its competitors at the same time.

Rishad Premji has strongly opposed moonlighting. While sticking to his statement, he said that moonlighting is  completely unethical. Speaking at the All India Management Association’s National Management Convention, Rishad Premji said that while the actual sacked employees were working for Wipro today, they were directly working for one of our competitors. We’ve found 300 people in the past few months who were doing just that.

He added that clauses mentioned in offer letters and employment contracts must be legally reviewed by the judiciary. Arbitrary dismissal of employees is unethical and illegal and NITES union will leave no stone unturned to get justice for the aggrieved employees.

What exactly is moonlighting?

Moonlighting has been talked about for the past few days, but it’s not exactly new. This has been going on since before. Moonlighting means the work assigned to you at the workplace. So let’s say your job is 10 to 5 and you complete it. But anything else you do outside is called moonlighting. 

Means you struggle to earn extra money after the job which the company is not aware of comes under moonlighting definition. As the name suggests, moonlighting refers to work done under the light of the moon or other work done at night or other times outside normal working hours.
