Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay On Mamata Banerjee: West Bengal government minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay on Sunday (March 26) said that the state’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is ‘God’ are like He said that sometimes even a priest can become a thief but not God.
‘Mamta is like the God we worship’
Chattopadhyay while addressing a public meeting organized at Khardah in North 24 Parganas district said, ‘‘Mamata Banerjee is like God whom we worship. Even the priest who worships God can be a thief but not the God whose idol he worships.’’ He said, ‘‘Even I may be a thief, but not Mamta Banerjee.’’
Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay made these allegations on the Left Front
State Agriculture Minister Chattopadhyay alleged that there were many irregularities in educational institutions under the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI)-led government, but they were never investigated. Chattopadhyay alleged that during the Left Front government, ineligible people were appointed professors in various government universities, but they were ignored.
CPI(M) and BJP’s reaction on Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay’s statement
CPI(M) MP Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya said that the court has already rejected the allegations made by Chattopadhyay. He said, ‘‘Now the public will punish them for their sins. He has lost his ground among the public. That’s why giving such statements.’’
Reacting to Chattopadhyay’s statement regarding the Chief Minister, the state’s main opposition BJP said that the Trinamool Congress leader is making such statements out of desperation. BJP leader Rahul Sinha said, ‘‘If free and fair elections are held, Trinamool Congress will win both the Panchayat and Lok Sabha elections.’’
