Ajay Mishra Teni was acquitted by the trial court in 2004 due to lack of evidence. However, in 2004, the UP government moved the High Court against the trial court’s decision. In this case, it was argued on behalf of the state government that Teni had a dispute with the student leader Prabhat regarding the panchayat elections. On the other hand, it was alleged by the government that Prabhat was also shot by Teni and another accused Subhash Mama. There were also eyewitnesses to the incident, whose testimony was ignored by the lower court.
