Taragiri : The strength of Indian Navy increased further! ‘Taragiri’ warship launched, know the features!

Taragiri : The strength of the Indian Navy has increased further. Because   Taragiri warship has entered the service of Indian Navy. Taragiri, the third warship of Project 17A, was launched at Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) on Sunday. Seven warships will be built under the Rs 50,000 crore Project 17A programme. Four of these warships will be built by MDL and three by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) with improved stealth features, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) said.   

Taragiri is a warship built using integrated construction method. This includes the  construction  of major  parts (hull blocks) of the vessel at various geographical locations and assembly/installation at MDL. Taragiri was laid down on 10 September 2020 and is expected to be handed over to the Navy by August 2025.  The design of this warship has been done by the Naval Design Bureau, a design organization under the Indian Navy. MDL is carrying out the detailed design and construction under the supervision of Warship Supervision Team (Mumbai). The warships are named after mountain ranges in India. ‘Taragiri’ is named after a hill in Garhwal in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand.

Starship’ The strength of the Navy is going to increase further as the warships are added to the navy’s fleet. The warship Taragiri weighs 3510 tonnes and has been designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house Bureau of Naval Design. The 149 meter long and 17.8 meter wide vessel will be powered by a combination of two gas turbines and two main diesel engines. It will have a top speed of 28 knots (about 52 kmph).  This boat can run through the sea waves at a speed of 59 km per hour. 150 personnel including 35 officers can be deployed on this indigenous warship.

The Taragiri warship is an indigenously built warship with state-of-the-art weapons, sensors, advanced action information system, integrated platform management system, world-class modular accommodation, power distribution system and many other advanced facilities. It is equipped with a supersonic surface-to-surface missile system.
