Tamil Nadu Politics: If we leave Karnataka, BJP is trying to find its land in other states of South India. Be it Telangana, Tamil Nadu or Kerala. In all these three states, the BJP which is in power at the center is trying to establish its foothold and in this sequence the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously visiting the southern states. PM Modi is in Karnataka after first visiting Telangana and then Tamil Nadu.
In Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao boycotted PM Modi and kept distance from him, whereas in Tamil Nadu the opposite picture was seen. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin warmly met with PM Modi. At the inauguration of the new terminal of Chennai airport, the Prime Minister was seen briefly holding Stalin’s hand. Its meaning increases when there is tension between the two parties.
The story seems to have changed!
Actually, the trend of these political winds seems to be following the old formula. In Tamil Nadu, the BJP has been in alliance with both the two major parties, the AIADMK and the DMK. In such a situation, PM Modi will not hesitate to forge an alliance with both these parties to strengthen the BJP in Tamil Nadu. If we talk about the DMK which is in power in the state, then its displeasure was not shown in the way KCR’s party BRS showed in Telangana. The manner in which PM Modi and MK Stalin met each other has led to various speculations.
However, MK Stalin has been seen raising the pitch of Congress-led opposition unity against the BJP for the Lok Sabha elections to be held in the year 2024. At the same time, a few days before PM Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu, CM Stalin wrote a letter to remove the three coal blocks identified in the Cauvery Delta area in the state from the list of national auctions. In response, the Center took immediate steps and removed all three areas from the list.
When did BJP and DMK join hands?
In the year 1999, DMK has been a part of NDA. At that time, Pramod Mahajan played an important role in the inclusion of DMK in the government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This alliance lasted till 2004. In fact, Murasoli was one of the close associates of Maran and the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from the DMK side and it was he who prepared the ground for this alliance.
