Meghalaya Electric Trains: Meghalaya got its first electric train, the journey of passengers from North-East will be more pleasant

Meghalaya First Electric Train: Indian Railways is trying to improve its facilities everyday. In the last few years, apart from cleanliness of trains in the country, a lot of emphasis has been laid on developing railway stations. In this episode, now the Railways has given a big gift to Meghalaya. According to the information, Meghalaya has got its first electric train. Explain that Indian Railways is moving ahead with full force to become a net zero carbon emitter by the year 2030.

In the pursuit of complete electrification, Northeast Frontier Railway has achieved another milestone by commissioning Dudhnai-Mendipathar (22.823 track km) single line section and Abhayapuri-Pancharatna (34.59 track km) double line section on March 15. According to the Ministry of Railways, the Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) has done the electrification work in these sections. This is a step ahead of Indian Railways’ endeavor to become a net zero carbon emitter by 2030.

Meghalaya has only one railway station

Mendipathar is the only railway station in the north-eastern state of Meghalaya, which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it. This railway station is in operation since 2014. After the commissioning of the electric track, trains pulled by electric locomotives will now be able to operate directly from Mendipathar in Meghalaya. This will increase the average speed. Passenger and freight trains will be able to run at high speed in these sections due to electric trains.

The speed of trains will improve

North-East Railway official told that electrification will improve the speed of trains in Northeast India. Apart from reduction in pollution due to shift from fossil fuel to electricity, the efficiency of railway system in this region will also improve. This will facilitate seamless transportation and save precious foreign exchange as well as travel time of trains to and from the North Eastern states. Also, parcel and freight trains running through electric locomotives from other states will be able to reach Meghalaya directly.
