Mallikarjun Kharge more likely to become Congress president; Resignation from the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha

Congress President Election: After filing the candidature for the post of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge (Mallikarjun Kharge) has resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha (LoP in Rajya Sabha).   Kharge has resigned according to the formula of one person one post. Meanwhile, Kharge’s candidacy for the post of president is considered strong. He has resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha today after filing his application for the post of Congress President yesterday. Now there is also curiosity as to who Congress will hand over the post of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. The names of P Chidambaram, Digvijay Singh, Jairam Ramesh are being discussed for the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.

Kharge may become next Congress President

Mallikarjun Khadke is considered more likely to be the next national president of the party. Kharge filed his application on September 30, after which the election for the post of president will be held on October 17 and the result will be announced on October 19. Against Kharge is Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. Kharge is most likely to win as he is said to be favored by the Gandhi family. 30 proponents were present with him when he made the nomination.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Anand Sharma, Prithviraj Chavan, Manish Tiwari from G-23 group were also present while filing the nomination form of Kharge. Therefore, Kharge is considered as the consensus candidate of the party.  Kharge comes from Karnataka, the only state in South India where BJP is strong. Elections are also going to be held in Karnataka soon. 

A total of three candidates filed their applications on the last day of filing nominations. However, the former MP from Gulbarga constituency in Karnataka lost in 2019.  Congress group leader in Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019. He also served as the Union Railway Minister during the UPA government. Minister in the Congress government in Karnataka, also held the post of President of Karnataka Congress.  From 2018 to 2020 Maharashtra Congress, he is also involved in the formation of Mahavikas Aghadi. Apart from Kharge and Tharoor, former Jharkhand minister KN Tripathi has also filed an application for the post of Congress president. The last date for withdrawal of applications is now till October 8.
