Kisan Mahapanchayat in Delhi: Once again the signs of starting the farmer’s movement are visible. An announcement has been made by the farmer leaders to march to Delhi on Monday i.e. March 20. On this issue, the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) held a meeting on Sunday (March 19). After the meeting SKM said, "Lakhs of farmers from all over the country have traveled to the national capital to participate in the Kisan Mahapanchayat to be held on March 20 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan."
SKM said in a statement that lakhs of farmers from different states and union territories will participate in the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ to be held in Delhi on March 20; are coming to participate. SKM leader Darshan Pal said at a press conference, "The Central Government should fulfill the assurance given to us in writing on 9 December 2021 and also take steps to remove the growing crisis facing the farmers."
Demand to dissolve the committee on MSP
SKM demanded the Center to disband the committee constituted on MSP and alleged that it is contrary to the demand of the farmers. The farmers have demanded pension, loan waiver, compensation to the farmers killed during the farmer’s movement and withdrawal of the electricity bill. SKM said in a statement, "The Electricity Amendment Bill-2022 sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee should be withdrawn.
Demand for 300 units of free electricity in the village
SKM reiterated its demand that electricity for agriculture should be given free of cost and no charges should be taken from rural households for 300 units of electricity per month. Not only that he said, "The Center had assured in writing that it would re-introduce the Bill in Parliament after discussion with the SKM, but despite this it introduced the Bill." SKM had told last month itself that a mahapanchayat will be called on March 20 regarding MSP.
The movement was withdrawn in 2021
Let us tell you that SKM had led the farmer’s movement for almost a year against the three agricultural laws that have now been withdrawn. SKM withdrew its agitation in December 2021 after getting assurance from the government to withdraw the lawsuits filed against the farmers during the protest and considering their pending demands including guarantee of MSP. While withdrawing the agitation, the farmers had said that if their demands were not met then agitation would be held again.
Delhi Police issued advisory
In view of Kisan Mahapanchayat, Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory. It is advised to avoid roads around Ramlila Maidan, especially from Jawaharlal Nehru Marg to Delhi Gate to Ajmeri Gate Chowk. Apart from this, we have made elaborate security arrangements for the Kisan Mahapanchayat. We will ensure the safety of the people. A senior police officer said, "We have deployed over 2,000 security personnel to ensure that the event is held peacefully and law and order is maintained."
