Khalistani Leader Amritpal Singh: Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh was detained by the Punjab Police on Sunday (March 19). The police had started a major action against Amritpal Singh and his supporters on Saturday (March 18). The police chased Amritpal Singh’s car. Although he managed to escape. Now the police have taken him into custody. 

Police arrested the Singh-led ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD) arrested 78 members. Police said that a huge quantity of weapons have been recovered during the operation. 

FIR against Amritpal Singh in illegal arms case

In view of the arrest, strict security arrangements have been made in Punjab and the internet has been closed since Saturday evening. The suspension on internet and SMS services in Punjab has been extended till Monday afternoon, the official said on Sunday.

What are the allegations against Amritpal Singh and his supporters?

According to the officials, an FIR has been lodged against the WPD associate for the attack on Ajnala police station on 24 February. Last month, Amritpal and his supporters, brandishing swords and guns, broke through barricades and entered the Ajnala police station on the outskirts of Amritsar city. They were all demanding the release of an associate of Amritpal.

Six policemen including a Superintendent of Police were injured in this incident. Last year, Amritpal Singh, who lived in Dubai, was given the title of ‘Waris Punjab De’. Was made the head of the organization, which was founded by actor and activist Deep Sidhu. Deep Sidhu had died in a road accident in February last year.
