Karnataka Government Formation Live: In Karnataka, out of 224 assembly seats, Congress has formed its government with absolute majority by winning 135 seats. BJP and JDS have had to face defeat. The state is soon going to get a new Chief Minister in the form of Siddaramaiah. The current term of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will end on May 24.
After five days of intense brainstorming over government formation in Karnataka, the Congress on Thursday (May 18) finalized Siddaramaiah as the new CM of Karnataka and gave DK Shivakumar the post of Deputy CM. Both these leaders will take oath on May 20 at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Leaders of several opposition parties are likely to participate in the ceremony. A day before the swearing-in ceremony in Karnataka, deputy CM-designate DK Shivakumar said the party would implement all the guarantees it had made in its manifesto.
20 ministers to join the cabinet
Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot and were formally sworn in as leaders of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) at a meeting of newly elected party legislators. Immediately after being elected, staked claim to form the government. Congress sources said that around 20 ministers will be included in the cabinet in the swearing-in. Talks are on on the number of loyalists from both the Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar camps to be given cabinet berths.

AICC’s Karnataka in-charge secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said both the leaders are happy, but when asked if Siddaramaiah will be the chief minister for the full five-year term If he stays, he did not make any promise. He said that ‘the only formula for power sharing is to work as a servant of the people of Karnataka’.
Swearing-in ceremony will be a show of strength
According to party sources, in a show of strength, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will invite opposition leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new CM and Deputy CM of Karnataka. Will invite you to The Gandhi family and senior Congress leaders will attend the event in Bengaluru.
