Karnataka Assembly Election 2023: The meeting of the Central Election Committee of the Congress is going to be held in Delhi today (March 17). In this meeting, the names of the candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections will be discussed. In this meeting, the first list of the names of the candidates can be stamped. Karnataka assembly elections are due in the next few months.
Names announced before Rahul’s rally
According to the information, before Rahul Gandhi’s Karnataka tour, the party can announce the names of about 120 candidates. Rahul Gandhi is going to reach Karnataka on 20 March. He will attend the party’s mega rally in Belagavi in the state.
The Central Election Committee meeting will also be attended by Karnataka state Congress president DK Shivakumar and former chief minister Siddaramaiah.
The earlier meeting held in Vijayapura on March 9 was attended by Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, Party’s Election Ticket Scrutiny Committee Chairman Mohan Prakash, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar and former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah.
DK Shivakumar’s brother may contest the election
DK Shivakumar’s brother DK Suresh’s name may also figure in the list of Congress candidates. DK Suresh is currently the only Congress MP in the state. There is talk of him contesting the Ramanagara assembly seat in front of Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of JDS leader Kumaraswamy. State President DK Shivakumar himself informed about this.
DK Shivakumar had said on his brother’s contesting the election, "I can’t deny it, but yes, there is an offer. I have to discuss this with everyone now. The message for me is that he should contest the elections. Local leaders are pressurizing me and the party is also saying that Suresh should contest the elections. I have not yet spoken to Suresh or party workers about this. It’s a big decision, but it’s not done yet."
