History : Marathwada Liberation War, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday; September 17 witnessed important events

Mumbai :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi Birthday) was born on 17 September 1950. He was sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister of the country on 26 May 2014 by the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Five years later, in 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Narendra Modi won re-election and began his second term as Prime Minister. Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister of the country who was born in independent India. Apart from this today is Marathwada Liberation Day. On this day, 17 September 1948, Marathwada was freed from the yoke of the Razakars. 1867: Birth of Gagendranath Tagore. Gagandranath Tagore was born on 17 September 1867 in a Thakur family in Jorsanko, Kolkata. He was the nephew of Rabindra Nath Tagore.  His father’s name was Gunendranath Tagore and his mother’s name was ‘Suhasini Devi’. When Gaganendranath was 14, his father died, after which his mother took care of him.  The creativity of this family gave a new shape to the entire culture of Bengal.  

  1948 : Marathwada Liberation Day 
On 15th August  1947, India became independent. But at that time the whole country was scattered among different states. Out of the then 565 institutions, 562 agreed to join independent India. However, Hyderabad Institute, Jammu and Kashmir and Junagadh Institute did not join independent India. The princely state of Hyderabad was ruled by Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan. Hyderabad State was ruled by the Nizam dynasty for as many as six generations. Under the leadership of Swami Ramanand Tirtha, a liberation movement was started in the entire Hyderabad State to be freed from the rule of their Nizams and join the Indian Union. Finally on 17 September 1948, Hyderabad was freed from the yoke of the Razakars. To this Maharashtra it is called Marathwada Mukti Sangram.  
 
1949  : South Indian political party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) founded

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or DMK is one of Tamil Nadu’s is a major political party. It was formed due to differences between Periyar’s Justice Party and the Dravida Kazhagam.  Its establishment was announced on 17 September 1949.
