Goa Congress BJP : BJP’s ‘Todo Congress’; Will 8 MLAs leave the party along with the opposition leader in Goa?

Goa Politics : While Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra is going on across the country, on the other hand, BJP has given a big blow to Congress. BJP’s Goa state president Sadanand Tanavade has claimed that eight MLAs including Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat will join the BJP today. 

Congress had won 11 seats in Goa elections a few months ago. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has shocked the Congress for the second time. Before the assembly elections, he had created a big divide in the Congress. Eight Congress MLAs met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is also among the MLAs joining the BJP. Digambar Kamat is considered to be an important leader of Congress in Goa.   

Major political events took place in Goa in the month of July. In the month of July itself, it was revealed that some Congress MLAs are in touch with the BJP. The Congress had accused the BJP of breaking two-thirds of the MLAs of the Congress. At that time, the Congress had announced the removal of Michael Lobo from the post of Leader of the Opposition. The Congress had alleged that they were offered a large amount of money by the BJP.

What is the strength?

The BJP currently has 20 MLAs in the Goa Legislative Assembly. So, Congress has 11 seats. Besides that, Maharashtra Gomantakvadi Party has two MLAs, Goa Forward Party has one. Whereas, other parties have six seats. If eight Congress MLAs join BJP, Congress will be left with three MLAs.
