First telecast on Doordarshan and Engineer’s Day, know what happened in history on 15th September

Mumbai : First telecast by Doordarshan, one of India’s largest broadcasters. Also the birth of  Sharachandra Chattopadhyay, author of  the famous novel ‘Parineeta’. 15th September is an important day in history. Many important events have happened on this day.

1860 : Bharat Ratna Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s  birthday.

It is the birthday of country’s engineer and Bharatratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Due to his contribution in the field of engineering, his birthday is celebrated as Engineers Day. He made  significant contribution in building dams, bridges, drinking water schemes on the river.

1876 : Famous Bengali novelist Sharachchandra Chattopadhyay birthday today

Today is the birthday of famous Bengali novelist Sharachchandra Chattopadhyay.  ‘Parineeta’ is his famous novel. 

1959 : First telecast on Doordarshan

The first program of Doordarshan was telecast on 15 September 1959 on Doordarshan. It was a one-hour program based on educational and developmental topics. The program was telecasted by the then President Rajendra Prasad.  Initially with the help of UNESCO, Doordarshan used to broadcast only one hour program twice a week. His aim was to make citizens aware.

2012 : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s fifth Sarsanghchalak  K. S. Sudarshan passes away 

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s fifth Sarsangchalak  K. S. Sudarshan passed away. During the period from 2000 to 2009, K. S. Sudarshan was  Sar Sanghchalak. In the year 2009, he voluntarily decided to get rid of the responsibility of Sarsangchalak post.
