Chandigarh: Amid rising prices of petrol and diesel, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said something heartwarming. He said that if India achieves the target of 20 per cent blend of ethanol with petrol by 2025, the country will save about Rs 1 lakh crore in foreign exchange. Shah said that in June 2021, the Narendra Modi government had set a target of 10 percent ethanol blend in petrol by November 2022, which has been achieved five months earlier. He said this after laying the foundation stone of Kribhco’s bioethanol plant at Hazira on the outskirts of Surat.

Petroleum sector is going to change the entire economy
Home Minister Amit Shah said that by achieving this target early, the government has reduced the deadline for achieving the target of 20 percent ethanol blend to 2025 from five years ago. Shah said, ‘Ethanol production is going to change the entire economy of the petroleum sector in the coming days. Achieving the 20 per cent ethanol blend target will save nearly Rs 1 lakh crore of foreign exchange by 2025. Ethanol blending will also help curb rising prices of petrol and diesel.

He said biofuels are a good option to reduce dependence on crude oil imports, which produced 172 million tonnes in 2011-12. tonnes to 212 million tonnes in 2021-22. He said that efforts are being made all over the world for this, India has formulated a systematic and scientific ethanol policy to achieve this. Shah said, "Despite these efforts, the US produces 55 percent, Brazil 27 percent and India three percent of ethanol."

Achieved 10% target 5 months back
He said that there is a lot of potential in this sector, which should be tapped by cooperatives like KRIBHCO. have done Cooperative units have to come forward to increase the income of farmers. Shah said, "On the one hand, the 10 percent blend achieved five months ahead of the November 2022 target has reduced crude oil imports by Rs 46,000 crore."
He said that bioethanol is made from grains, molasses, plants and 27 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions have been reduced with 10 percent blending. The minister said, the day the government achieves the target of 20 percent mix, these figures will double.
