Doklam Issue: What did Bhutan’s PM say on Doklam that can increase India’s concern?

Bhutan PM Lotay Tshering On Doklam Issue: Six years after the face-off between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Doklam, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Lotay Tshering has given such a statement which can increase India’s concern. He has said that Beijing has an equal right to find a solution to the dispute over the high altitude plateau. Actually India believes that China is illegally occupied here.

These things were said by the PM of neighboring friend country Bhutan in an interview of Belgian daily newspaper La Libre. Not only this, he has also denied the news of construction of Chinese villages in Bhutanese territory. He also said that resolving the Doklam issue is ‘not for Bhutan alone’.

Bhutan denies settlement of Chinese villages

Bhutan’s PM Tshering has denied the news of construction of Chinese villages in Bhutanese territory. Along with this, he has also given a serious statement about solving the Doklam issue. He said that this is not the issue of Bhutan alone. In the year 2020, it was revealed through some satellite photos that China has built villages within two kilometers of Bhutan’s border. At that time nothing was said in this matter from Bhutan’s side.

He also said, “We are ready. As soon as the other two parties (China-India) are also ready, we can discuss.” This is a gesture  Thimphu is ready to hold talks on the status of the tri-junction in Doklam between India, China and Bhutan, the center of the dispute. This announcement of PM Tshering to settle the border disputes between the two countries of Bhutanese and Chinese officials "Three-Step Roadmap" After a few months of discussing it is done. The discussion took place in Kunming, a city in the southwest of China.

Why does India want China to stay away from Bhutan?

Doklam comes in India’s neighboring country Bhutan. It is near the Siliguri Corridor connecting India with the Northeast. Because of this, India wants China to keep distance from Doklam. In the year 2017, this area also became the reason for the dispute between India and China. Then there was a situation of deadlock between India and China in Doklam for more than 73 days. There was also a clash between the armies of both the countries.

Ultimately the solution to this tension between the soldiers of both the countries was taken out after diplomatic talks. China started building a road here. Then India did not allow its plans to be fulfilled. China intends to shift the tri-junction to a peak named Mount Jipmochi, about 7 km south of Batang La. If China succeeds in this, then the entire Doklam plateau will legally become a part of China. India has objection to this point of China.
