New Delhi: Union Minister Anurag Thakur said in a press briefing that the Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to extend the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana’ till March 2022 to provide free rations. Last year, the government announced PM-GKAY for all beneficiaries covered by the National Food Security Act (NFSA) due to economic constraints caused by COVID-19. The scheme was to end on November 30. Under this scheme, the government provides 5 kgs of foodgrains free of cost to about 800 million NFSA beneficiaries.
Anurag Thakur said that the Cabinet has also completed the formalities for repeal of three agriculture laws. Thakur said, "During the next session of Parliament, it will be our priority to withdraw these three laws."
