CJI Uday Lalit: Chief Justice Uday Lalit’s emotional farewell to the court, salute by placing his head on the steps

New Delhi: Chief Justice of the country Uday Lalit was seen getting emotional on the last day of his tenure. Chief Justice Uday Lalit saluted the steps of the Supreme Court today. Chief Justice Uday Lalit emotional on last day after nearly 37 years of service Chief Justice Uday Lalit practiced law for 29 years and worked as a judge in the Supreme Court for the last eight years. So today was the last day for him. He directly bowed his head on the steps of the Supreme Court and bid farewell. 

Uday Lalit of Girye village in Devgad in Talkokonan was appointed as the 49th Chief Justice of the country on August 27. Chief Justice Uday Lalit got less than three months as Chief Justice. Now he will retire on Wednesday and will be replaced by Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud. 

Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud 50th Chief Justice 

Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud (Justice DY Chandrachud) will be the next Chief Justice of the country. has been appointed as Justice Chandrachud will take charge from November 9 and will be the 50th Chief Justice of the country. His tenure will be till November 10, 2024. 

In May 2016, Justice DY Chandrachud took charge as a judge of the Supreme Court. His father YV Chandrachud has also been the Chief Justice of the country. YV Chandrachud also holds the record of longest tenure as Chief Justice. He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1978 to 1985. 

Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud was born on 11 November 1959. take Chandrachud is a sitting judge of the Supreme Court. He holds LLB degree from Delhi University. In 1998, he was nominated as a Senior Advocate in Bombay High Court. He has also been the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Justice DY Chandrachud has served as judge in several major cases including Sabarimala, Homosexuality, Aadhaar and Ayodhya cases.
