By-Election 2023: By-elections announced for one Lok Sabha and 6 Vidhan Sabha seats, know the dates

By-Election 2023 Dates: The Election Commission has announced on Wednesday (January 18) the dates of assembly elections in three states as well as by-elections in 7 states and Union Territories. By-elections have been announced for one Lok Sabha seat and 6 Vidhan Sabha seats. All the seats will go to polls on February 27, while the counting of votes will be held on March 2.

These seats include the Lakshadweep (ST) Lok Sabha seat while the assembly seats include Lumla in Arunachal Pradesh, Ramgarh in Jharkhand, Erode (East) in Tamil Nadu, Sagardighi in West Bengal, Kasba Peth and Chinchwad in Maharashtra.

Why are the land elections being held?

Member of Parliament Muhammad Faisal Bye-election is being held in Lakshadweep (ST) Lok Sabha seat due to the disqualification of Mohammad Faisal was recently convicted by a Union Territory court in a case of attempted murder. Due to the death of BJP MLA Jambe Tashi, the by-election is being held in Lumla seat of Arunachal Pradesh.

Congress MLA Mamata Devi from Ramgarh seat of Jharkhand has been declared ineligible. The by-election is being held after He was convicted in a criminal case. The Erode (East) seat of Tamil Nadu is holding a by-election due to the death of MLA Thirui Thirumahan Ivara. Due to the death of MLA Subrata Saha, the by-election is being held in Sagardighi, West Bengal. By-elections are being held after the death of MLA Mukta Shailesh Tilak in Kasba Peth seat and MLA Laxman Pandurang Jagtap in Chinchwad seat.

Elections announced in three states too

The Election Commission also announced assembly elections in three states on Wednesday. The Election Commission said Tripura will go to polls for the upcoming assembly elections on February 16, while Meghalaya and Nagaland will go to polls on February 27 on the same day. Counting of votes in all the three states will be held on March 2.
