After completing his three-year tenure in 2020, Venugopal had requested the government to relieve him of the responsibility considering his age. But, the government asked Venugopal to work for the next term. After the government’s request, Venugopal agreed to stay in the post for another two years. Mukul Rohatgi will begin his second term as Attorney General from October 1, sources said. He has also served as Additional Solicitor General of India. Even after Rohatgi’s resignation in 2017, the government is said to have consulted him on many other sensitive issues, including the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

Rohatgi fought many important cases 

In 2014, BJP single-handedly established power. Mukul Rohatgi was then appointed as Attorney General for the first term. Mukul Rohatgi is one of the most prominent lawyers in India. He has fought many important cases including the Gujarat riots. Rohatgi had argued the case on behalf of the Gujarat government in the Gujarat riots case. 

He also contested the case related to National Judicial Appointment Commission. Recently, Mukul Rohti contested the case of the Mumbai Cruise drug case, which became famous across the country. Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested by NCB in this case. In this case, he defended Aryan Khan.
