1448: Birth of famous Indian poet Saint Surdas. (Sant Surdas Birth Anniversary) 

Surdas was a devotional poet who wrote in the Braj dialect of Hindi. Surdas was born in a village called Runkata. Surasagar is his famous book.  Hearing the fame of Surdas, Emperor Akbar came to meet him through the mediation of Tansena. Legend has it that Surdas refused to write Akbar’s eulogy. Even after this incident, Akbar translated Sursagara into Persian. Bharramagit part of Surasagar is considered to be particularly important in literary terms. This book is said to have enhanced the beauty of the Hindi language. Done in   In 2015, the English translation of Surasagar was published by Harvard University. Apart from Surasagar, Surdas also wrote other books like Sursaravali, Sahitya Lahari, Naladmayanti. Surdas died in 1580 at Parasouli village near Govardhan.
   
1868 : Birth of Fritz Haber 
Fritz Haber, a German chemist who won the Nobel Prize for discovering a method of obtaining large quantities of ammonia gas from nitrogen, was born on this day. He won the Nobel Prize in 1918. He died on 29 January 1934.
 
1878 : Annasaheb Latthe, Diwan of Kolhapur State and Education Minister, was born on this day. 
 
1913 : Birth of first woman photographer Homi Vyarawala 

India’s first female photojournalist  Homi Vyarawala was born on this day. He started his photography business in 1938. During his career, he photographed many important leaders including Pandit Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi during the last phase of the Indian freedom struggle. He also took pictures of many events and happenings in the first three decades of independent India. In 2011, he was awarded Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India.

1946: Sonia Gandhi Birthday (Soniya Gandhi Birthday) 
Khasdar Sonia Gandhi was born on this day in 1946. Originally from Italy, Sonia Gandhi married Rajiv Gandhi and came to India.  She was the longest serving President of Indian National Congress. Sonia Gandhi assumed leadership of the Congress in 1998, 7 years after the assassination of her husband and former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. He held the post of President for 22 years till 2017. Congress was also in power for many years during this period. Sonia Gandhi was included as the most powerful politician in India from 2004 to 2014. In 2007, Forbes named her the third most powerful woman in the world. He has also held many important positions in parliamentary politics.  

1946: Actor and MP Shatrughan Sinha Birthday (Shatrughan Sinha Birthday)
Shatrughan Sinha is a leading actor and leader. He acted in many films. Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam Sinha. They have three children Luv, Kush and Sonakshi. When Shatrughan Sinha was in BJP, he was a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet. After this he left the party criticizing the policies of the BJP and joined the Congress. Shatrughan Sinha had contested on a Congress ticket from Patna Sahib in 2019, but he faced defeat there. Shatrughan Sinha joined TMC after continuous defeats while in Congress. He then won the Lok Sabha by-election from Asansol by a huge margin. Shatrughan Sinha won by a margin of around two lakh votes.  

1942 : Dr. Death of Dwarkanath Kotnis
Dwarkanath Shantaram Kotnis, who was born in Solapur, died today. He is remembered with great respect in China for his service during World War II. Considered as a symbol of friendship between India and China, Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis was one of the five young doctors who were sent to China in 1938 for World War II relief work. Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis passed away at the age of just 32 while serving in China.  On October 10, 1910
