Mumbai: December 5 has been written in golden letters in the history of both India and Bangladesh. On this day in 1971, India recognized Bangladesh as an independent country. This was a big blow for Pakistan. After that, Dhaka was liberated by the Bangladesh army with the help of India. For this, Pakistani soldiers were asked to surrender unconditionally. The then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi played an important role in the independence of Bangladesh.

1818: Birth anniversary of famous Ghazalist Josh Malihabadi 

Today is the birth anniversary of famous ghazal writer Josh Malihabadi. He was a famous poet of British era. He was a citizen of India till 1958. But later he went to Pakistan and settled. He has written many ghazals and poems under the pen name ‘Josh’. He was born in Malihabad, Lucknow. So he became Josh Malihabadi. He was active in the freedom struggle with his pen. It was through this that he came in contact with the leaders of that time, especially Jawaharlal Nehru. After the end of British rule in 1947, he became the editor of ‘Aaj Kal’. He was also awarded Padma Bhushan in 1954. He died on 22 February 1982.

Therefore, in order to raise awareness in this regard, in 2013, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate December 5 as World Soil Day.
