1731 : One lakh people died in an earthquake in Beijing, China. It was considered a very large earthquake. But even after that there was a bigger earthquake in China. On July 28, 1976, an earthquake struck China’s Hebei Province and leveled the city of Tangshan. 255,000 people died. Pune made a record of 551 days run. Bathinye Aika is a Marathi language black and white film that ran for 131 consecutive weeks.

Nobel Prize winner Indian botanist Jagdish Chandra Bose was born on this day.   Jagdish Chandra Bose, who did basic research on plant reflexes, put India’s name on the world map in the field of research.  Jagdish Chandra Bose was an Indian biologist, physicist, botanist and archaeologist. The great Indian scientist Jagdishchandra Bose’s work on plants is huge. He died on 23 November 1937.

1931 : Indian historian Romila Thapar was born on this day. Romila Thapar is an Indian historian who has done valuable research on ancient Indian history. Oscar Fingal O’Flaherty Wills Wilde was an Irish playwright, novelist, poet and short story writer. He was born on 16 October 1854. He died at a very young age. But the writing he did in this life made him immortal. Oscar Wilde is the name of the person who created a sensation in the whole world with his pen. Oscar Wilde is named after Shakespeare.  His writings contain deep experiences of life, secrets of relationships, interpretations of sacred beauty, stories of human sensibilities. >Indrakumar Gujral, the 12th Prime Minister of India, passed away on this day.  He was born in the city of Jhelum in the present Punjab province of Pakistan. He was also jailed for his participation in the Chalejaw Movement of 1942. He had settled in India after partition. His political career started with the Delhi Municipal Corporation.  In 1997, the Congress party, which had received external support from the United Alliance government, withdrew its support and the Deve Gowda government collapsed. But then there was a compromise between the Congress party and a joint alliance of some opposition parties. On condition that it will not be sidelined in important decisions, the Congress party agreed to support the government formed by the joint coalition under the leadership of the new leader. The United Alliance appointed Indra Kumar Gujral as its leader and was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India on 21 April 1997. Gujral remained as Prime Minister for 11 months. He was caretaker Prime Minister for 3 months out of which. After 1999, Indrakumar Gujral retired from active politics.
