Mini gas cylinders along with rice, sugar, kerosene, wheat and other commodities will no longer be available in ration shops. Officials from the Center, state governments and the Civil Supplies Department are planning to revive the ration shops, which are struggling to meet even the minimum maintenance costs. As part of that, Narayanpet district officials in Telangana are preparing to make mini gas cylinders, internet cafes and citizen charge services available to the poor in ration shops as part of a pilot project.
Out of 247 ration shops in 11 zones of Narayanpet district, only rice is being supplied at present. So that’s only enough commission for the dealers. It is against this backdrop that the authorities have taken steps to strengthen the system of dealers. Civil Supplies Department officials are now arranging to supply 5 kg gas cylinders to cardholders as well as Aadhaar card holders at ration shops. It was decided to supply mini cylinders every month. First-timers will be offered Rs 940 per cylinder and Rs 620 per cylinder from next month. With this the ration dealers are hoping to make a profit trail financially. In addition, it seems that Internet cafes in ration shops are making 14 types of services available through the civic document.
