Rajkot, Jan 24 (PTI) The Gujarat government on Monday named an ‘under-bridge’ in Rajkot in honor of the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat.
General Rawat died in a helicopter crash in December.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated this bridge located in Laxmi Nagar area online. He said, “Recently, CDS General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash. The bridge was named after General Bipin Rawat.
Earlier, Rajkot Mayor Pradeep Dao had asked the chief minister to suggest a name for the structure, which has been built at a cost of Rs 48 crore.
Patel said that his government is committed to spend money on building infrastructure in the state and spoke about the various development works undertaken in Rajkot.
All 14 people on board, including General Rawat and his wife, were killed in a helicopter crash on December 8 near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district.
