Talking about her acting career, Suchitra said, “I used to do a lot of theater during my school and college days. Even I was selected for the TV series ‘Chunauti’ because I was active in theatre. I have done more than 100 shows of musical play in the past. It’s all pre-wedding. After marriage, I left acting and now I am doing theater. The play ‘Drama Queen’ that I am doing right now is written by myself, I have composed its music and it is based on my book of the same name.
‘Sit at home a lot’
On returning to acting in films, Suchitra said, ‘I have done two web series and when my daughter went to college, I decided to return to acting. I am lucky that I am getting good offers. After starting with theatre, I worked in TV and films as well, so the medium doesn’t matter to me. Right now talks are going on for films and TV shows as well but it is too early to say anything about them. Yes, I plan to get into acting again. Sitting at home a lot.’
‘It’s hard being a single mother’
After the divorce, Suchitra has single-handedly raised her daughter. On the challenges that come with being a single mother, she said, “It is very difficult to be a single mother. I was getting many offers but I could not go to work leaving my daughter alone at home. For me my daughter was the first priority. When my daughter went to college, I went into depression. After that I thought let’s move on from ourselves. Called friends and said that I want to come back to work.
‘I will love on my own terms’
After her divorce from Shekhar Kapur, Suchitra neither married nor came into any relationship. Now once again talking about marriage and love, he said, ‘I am very happy to be single but if I find love somewhere, it will be on my own terms. I don’t want to whisper, chatter anymore. I haven’t closed the doors for love in my life but it hasn’t opened completely either. Over time I have become very dependent on myself and don’t feel like I need any support.
