Has ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ broken previous box office records? First day collection

Mani Ratnam’s Brahmanda movie Ponniyin Selvan is getting a huge response from the theatres. Reports are coming out that the film managed to get a good collection on the first day itself. Reportedly, the film has collected Rs 40 crores from across the country on its first day. The film’s global collection is Rs 80 crores. Ponniyin Selvan’s progress is behind Kamal Haasan’s Vikram and Ajith’s Valimai. The film earned around 20 crores from Tamil Nadu alone. The film earned two crores in Hindi.

The film earned 40 crores from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. The film earned Rs 3.25 crore from Kerala. 4 crores from Karnataka and 5.50 crores from Andhra/Telangana. A huge star cast has lined up for the film. Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai and Aishwarya Lakshmi played the lead roles in the film. Experts suggest that the film will collect 70 crores on the second day. Kamal Haasan’s Vikram collected 54 crores at the box office. Ajith Valimai also earned 50 crores.

The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel Ponniyin Selvan published in 1955. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film. The film was also released in USA, Malaysia and Canada. The first part of the film, which is being prepared in two parts, has now been released. Most of the audience’s reaction is that they got to see Mani Ratnam magic in Ponniyin Selvan. Mani Ratnam completed the shooting of Ponniyin Selvan in 150 days.
