Mammootty started with KS Sethumadhavan’s Anubhavangal Paalichakal. Mammootty was just an unnoticed junior artiste in the film starring Sathyan, Prem Nazir and Sheela. Mammootty later said that he was lucky to be able to start with Sathyan Master while he was asleep.
In the 1980 film For Sale, Dreams, Mammootty played a notable role as a teenager. Although cinema was his passion, he did not give up his studies for cinema, so he completed his studies as a lawyer and started practicing, but Mammootty was not able to capture his passion for cinema. So he quit his job as a lawyer and started focusing on cinema. The only thing is that the black shirt that was taken off at that time was later worn occasionally for the characters in the movie.
Mammootty is one of the best films in Malayalam cinema like Taniyavarthanam, Vidheyan, Mathilukal, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Mrigaya, Patheyam, The King, Valyettan and Pazhashiraja. He has done films with MT, Joshi, Lohithadas, Sibi Malayil, K Madhu, Ivy Sasi, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Priyadarshan, Blessy and Lal Jose. Mammootty is a three time National Award winning actor. In 1989, Mammootty won his first National Award for his performance in Mathilukal and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha. In 1993, he won a National Award for his performance in Ponthanmada and Vidheyam. Dr. Mammootty has won the National Award for the third time for his English film Babasaheb Ambedkar. In 1998, the country honored Mammootty with the Padma Shri. Mammootty has won many state awards.
