The preparations for the release of my first film were going on and just four days back, I got a call from the underworld at my house and my whole family was shocked.

‘If the film is released, I will shoot you’

Karan Johar told, ‘There was no one at my house at that time, only mother. There was a call on the house phone and the mother (Heeru Johar) picked up the phone. The voice was of Abu Salim, who told the mother, if you do not stop your son from releasing the film, he will have to lose his life. If Karan Johar releases the film on Jumme, we will shoot him.

Terrified mother and family in panic

‘The mother got scared and came to me in panic and dragged me into the house. Loudly closed all the doors and said that you will not go anywhere. Those people will kill you. You don’t release the film. Then we called the police. At the same time my father, Aditya Chopra and Shahrukh Khan came home. Police provided security.

The film was to premiere the next day and the mother was so scared that she asked to stop the premiere of the film. But the biggest moment of my career was how I would have stopped everything all of a sudden. I held the premiere of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ the next day. All the veterans of the industry came to see this film. A star like Shammi Kapoor also saw the film and with that a dream of mine came true. The film premiered but Karan Johar, who came to see his film, could neither welcome nor listen to everyone’s praise of these stars. Because due to security, Karan Johar was locked in a room by the police.
